‘I feared for my life’: Ameigh addresses ‘fake’ hijacking claims on ‘RHOD’

In the sixth episode of the fourth season of the reality TV show, Ameigh Thompson, a new cast member of Real Housewives of Durban (RHOD), talked about her claimed hijacking.

The mother-of-two caused a stir in October 2022 when she claimed, in an Instagram Live session, that she had been taken advantage of in June of the same year, right in front of her kids.

The incident happened in Durban, as the Fundisiwe Foundation founder shared with her followers at the time. She revealed that Sli Khumalo, an anti-gender-based violence activist well-known for her spat with DJ Tira’s wife, Gugu Khathi, was also with her.

As per the Government Communications and Information Systems (GCIS) website, Ameigh is married to a drug dealer from Johannesburg named Ivan Marvis. Together, they have a son and a daughter.

Ameigh claims that the supposed hijackers brandished a gun at her kids during the incident before turning it towards her. The RHOD actress claimed that Sli fled the area with her kids and stood a short distance away when this occurred. The TV celebrity was also beaten at this point and forced to give up her car keys by the claimed hijackers.

Ameigh went on to say that Sli—whom she hinted was working with the aforementioned criminals—was ultimately the one behind the wheel of her vehicle. She said that Sli had tried to get in touch with her jailed, estranged husband and that he wanted her life.

Retaliating, Sli said that Ameigh staged the entire affair, down to the facial bruising. She claimed that the reality TV personality was aware that her brother, who is divorcing her, was after her vehicle.

Marvis purportedly purchased Ameigh’s car after learning, while incarcerated, that her new partner had been driving it as his own.

Sli claims that Ameigh is facing legal action for reportedly submitting false documentation when attempting to sell the home she shared with Marvis. She apparently took this action after learning that Marvis had placed the house in trust.

In the third RHOD episode, Zama Ngcobo revealed some of this information at her 40th birthday celebration. But Ameigh was set off by the story, and he went off at Zama. Ameigh, who insisted the hijacking incident was real, called her fellow cast member a cold-blooded murderer.

In episode six, the two made an effort to resolve their differences, with Ameigh offering her perspective.

“You stood there and I looked at you and I said to you ‘this is a very sensitive issue’ and it involves my kids. And I said to you the headline there says I was hijacked at gunpoint with my kids,” Ameigh addressed Zama during Jojo Robinson’s party.

“You stood there and said ‘well, the streets are talking,’” Ameigh continued.

When Zama interjected, explaining to her that she acknowledged that she may have offended her, even though it appeared as if social media users portrayed the incident as a joke, Ameigh rubbished her views.

“No, they didn’t, sweety, you did. It was a movement, honey. I was contacted by very serious high-profile people. It was not a joke,” a livid Ameigh said.

She added that the only reason she told the story was out of fear for her own life.

“I’m a very private person. The only reason why I put it out there was because I was fearing for my life. He would call my family and tell them that he’s going to kill me and they won’t even get to bury me because they won’t know where to find my body.

“So it’s been very emotionally draining. It’s been very hurtful to my family,” Ameigh said.
